Martin Short, like many before him, started his racing career in karting at the age of 7. Martin soon started competing at a national and international level, competing in his first karting nationals in 2000 and moving into Formula Ford racing in 2007. Throughout his career he has achieved many successes developing a reputation as a promising young driver.

In 2006 Martin won the New Zealand Rotax Max series sending him to Portugal to compete at the world champs in Viana Do Castello. This internationally recognised event hosted 64 world class drivers from 48 different countries. Martin was taken out of one of the heats which forced him to start in 28th position for the pre-final. Martin’s endurance and determination to fight back was evident as he raced his hardest and was placed 8th. In the final Martin ran 3rd for most of the race until the last few laps where his kart went off pushing him back to 5th.

Martin made a move to single seater racing at the start of 2007 racing a Formula Ford in the New Zealand National Championship. Since then he has also competed in selected rounds of the Australian Formula Ford National Championship including the Australian Grand Prix 2009.

Martin was recently attended the New Zealand Motorsport Elite Academy where he furthered to develop his skills as a driver and a professional sportsman.
